Bandshell committee asks Ridgewood for $6,000 boost to summer concerts funding

Ridgewood — Gail McCarthy, chair of the Castro Memorial Bandshell committee, told the Village Council the volunteer committee is finding it harder to cover operational costs for the free summer concert series and asked the council to increase the village contribution.
McCarthy said the committee currently receives $9,000 annually from the village and that the committee needs an additional $6,000 to ensure “the venue not only looks great, sounds great, but reflects the high standards of our village.” She said operational costs have risen, the band sizes have grown, and the committee is now paying for a sound company and a utility staffer at concerts from fundraising proceeds.
Council members thanked McCarthy for the program and noted the request would be considered as part of the budget process. No formal action or vote occurred at the meeting.
