Ridgewood council adopts broad consent agenda and introduces tree-protection ordinance

The Village Council of Ridgewood adopted a broad consent agenda on Jan. 15 that included a package of Ridgewood Water contracts and multiple municipal resolutions, and held first readings for several ordinances, including a new tree-protection ordinance.
Why it matters: the consent actions authorize work ranging from water main replacements and PFAS laboratory analysis to bus-shelter placement and social-service leases; the introduced tree-protection ordinance will proceed to a public hearing on Feb. 10.
By consent the council adopted resolutions numbered 25-38 through 25-76 and 25-77 through 25-95; items included award of contracts for water-main replacement, hydraulic services, lead service-line replacement, PFAS laboratory analysis, landscaping, and water billing and data-collection services. The consent package also included authorization for a New Jersey Transit bus shelter to be placed in front of Ridgewood High School and authorization to execute a lease for the Social Services Association to use the Ridgewood Train Station for a food pantry.
Council members then introduced several ordinances on first reading and fixed Feb. 10 as the date for public hearings. Ordinances introduced included salary ordinances (Ord. 4028 and 4029), a traffic-stop schedule amendment (Ord. 4029), a full replacement of the village—s trees-and-shrubs chapter to create a tree protection, removal and replacement ordinance (Ord. 4030), and an amendment concerning police-department administration (Ord. 4031). The clerk read ordinance titles aloud and each ordinance was moved for first reading with roll-call votes recorded in favor.
The council also approved the minutes to proceed into closed session to discuss limited personnel matters including appointments to boards and committees, citing NJSA 10:4-12.
