Committee tables proposal to eliminate parking on Panther Trail Hill, will solicit resident feedback

The Public Works Committee discussed a staff recommendation to prohibit parking on one side of Panther Trail Hill at Grama Place after staff and police reviewed a resident photo showing vehicles parked on both sides of the hill and reported a near-miss side-swipe.

Staff described the geometry: the crest of the hill and the placement of driveways and hydrants make sightlines poor in one approach and make passing parked cars unsafe. Public Works staff said they favor eliminating parking on one side — likely the westbound lane — because it would impact fewer properties while improving sightlines.

Committee members asked whether Police Department staff had recommended a specific side; staff said PD recommended eliminating parking on one side but did not specify which. Committee members drove the corridor recently and discussed the starting and ending points for a no-parking zone (fire hydrant to fire hydrant vs. driveway-to-driveway). One committee member proposed surveying neighbors for side preference and another suggested sending a notice describing the proposal and seeking feedback.

A motion to table the item until the June meeting passed by voice vote. Staff will draft notification language describing the tentative no-parking section (hydrant-to-hydrant and alternatives) and will solicit resident input; staff also suggested committee members drive the corridor themselves to confirm sightlines.
