The Laramie County Board of County Commissioners at its meeting proclaimed April 2025 as the Month of the Military Child, passing a resolution to recognize children of service members and encourage community observances.
The resolution text, read into the record by staff member Christie, said thousands of Americans "have demonstrated their courage and commitment to freedom by serving the armed forces of the United States of America" and stated that "when parents serve in the military, their children serve too." The reading cited an estimate that about 5,000 of Wyoming's children and youth have been directly affected by the military deployment of at least one parent or loved one.
Commissioner Thompson expressed appreciation for military families, saying the commission is "very proud of our military and proud of the families that support those military," noting local ties to the nearby base. Commissioner Heath, identifying herself as a retired military spouse, said she sympathized with children who "sometimes feel a little bit uprooted and underappreciated" and welcomed the board's continued support. The resolution was approved by roll call with commissioners voting in the affirmative.
The proclamation asks local communities, businesses and government leaders to provide support to military children and to observe April with ceremonies and activities that honor and thank military children and youth.
