Laramie County lifts Stage 1 fire restrictions countywide
Summary
After consultation with local fire chiefs, Laramie County rescinded Stage 1 wildfire restrictions effective Jan. 20, citing reduced fire danger based on recent weather and forecasts.
The Laramie County Board of County Commissioners voted Jan. 20 to rescind Stage 1 fire restrictions for the county.
Janine West, director of Laramie County Emergency Management and deputy fire warden, told the commission that she and County Fire Warden Butler (who was off duty) had consulted Laramie County fire chiefs and recommended lifting the restrictions because recent weather and forecasted patterns have reduced the wildfire danger to an acceptable level.
“After consulting with the Laramie County Fire Chiefs, we're recommending that these restrictions be lifted,” West said. She cautioned, however, that wildfire risk can return quickly and that local fire officials would continue monitoring conditions and re-impose restrictions if necessary.
The county’s resolution to rescind the prior orders (including the July 2 and Oct. 16 restrictions referenced in the packet) was presented as a single item. Commissioners approved the resolution by roll call. No additional conditions or timeline were recorded in the public hearing discussion.
West noted that a large fire occurred March 1 and that the county remains prepared to restore restrictions if conditions deteriorate.
