On May 6, 2025, the Lewisville Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6-0 to recommend that the City Council approve an alternative landscaping standard for a proposed Sam’s Club on 10.51 acres at 751 West Main Street.
Planning staff told commissioners the applicant seeks to replace sod in several landscape islands with two types of river rock. “Our code requires that 50% of the landscape islands be living plant material,” staff said, and the requested alternative would make the site less conforming to that standard but would add 16 trees that are not currently on the site. Staff added that it did not object to the request and recommended approval to the council.
The commission heard that Kimley‑Horn is representing the owner, Walmart stores number 18‑638125‑4‑6, and that Kinsey Porter was present in support. Commissioner Grama made the motion to approve the alternative standard; a second was recorded and the motion carried, 6‑0. The item will go to the City Council for final action on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The commission’s action is a recommendation only; the council has the authority to approve, deny or modify the alternative standard. No amendments or opposing testimony were recorded in the commission’s hearing file.
