Cristina Valdivia, director of communications for Go Surf, said the California Service Core is recruiting 10,000 people across California for paid service positions that include full‑ and part‑time roles and opportunities tied to college enrollment.
Valdivia described the program’s purpose and scope during a Spanish‑language radio interview, saying the initiative places participants in education, climate action and food‑bank work while providing professional experience and connection to communities. “Sí, sí, sí, este estamos reclutando 10000 personas ahorita este y es muy importante porque los miembros que participan este están brindando un servicio a sus comunidad,” she said.
The program, Valdivia said, offers different tracks tailored to age and enrollment status. She said some positions are open to people as young as 16. For college students who participate in the program she said they can receive stipends “hasta 10000 dólares.” Valdivia also referenced eligibility for “nuestros estudiantes dreamers bajo la ley AB 5 40,” and said participating colleges are listed on the program’s website.
Valdivia gave the program website during the interview as “CA Servicescore.com” and told listeners that start dates vary by track: college‑linked positions typically begin with the university term while other positions may start in summer or fall. “Hay programas que empiezan en el otoño, hay otros que empiezan en el verano,” she said.
She encouraged interested people to consult the program site for specific requirements for each track, saying that requirements differ by program and that information on participating colleges is published online. “Todas esas escuelas están anotadas en nuestro sitio de web y en toda la información está en el sitio de web,” Valdivia said.
The interview consisted of an exchange between the host and Valdivia; no formal government action or vote was discussed in the segment.
