Resident wins mural grant, proposes patio and seating at Kathy's Corner; EDC offers promotion and connections

The resident, Becky, said the landlord has agreed to sign an agreement allowing the seating area to remain for a public‑use period (she said about 10 years). An artist who has painted murals across the Northern Neck, Melody Stimmel, will lead at least one of the murals; Becky said the mural grant covers the artwork and that she has been promised $1,000 toward a picnic table. A local contractor provided an estimate of about $9,400 to build a patio roughly 22 by 30 feet (approximate dimensions were discussed).
Commissioners and staff suggested local options to lower costs — donated bricks or reclaimed pavers, volunteer labor, and partnerships with CTE students at the high school. Bob and other EDC members recommended Becky meet Stacy, the school CTE contact, and encouraged her to stop by the upcoming career fair to make connections. EDC members also identified local foundations and arts groups that may assist with additional funding and recommended adding a unique QR code to track brochure and outreach impact.
EDC members offered to promote the GoFundMe and suggested local landscapers and businesses that might donate materials or labor; no EDC grant or county funds were committed at the meeting.
