Chandler kicks off 10-year general plan update; public workshops and online survey open

Council member Orlando announced that Chandler has started its 10-year general plan update and invited residents to a public workshop series and an online survey.
Orlando said the effort "is basically a visioning process or a future looking process," adding the city has kicked off the plan with a committee and will host resident input events. He invited residents to a Chandler Talks session on Saturday, May 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts and said an online questionnaire will remain available through June at chandleraz.gov/generalplan.
The city-required general plan guides future land use decisions, including where industry and housing may be located. "What it does, it tells you how our land use will be in the future, where we put industry, where we put residential," Orlando said during the council meeting.
Orlando also said that after the council adopts the plan there will be a public process related to final approval; he told residents they will have an opportunity to weigh in as the process continues.
Council members noted the timeline and ways for public participation; no formal action on the plan was taken at the meeting. The announcement was part of the council's current-events remarks during the May 8 meeting.
