Portage City council appoints Amy Schlinkert to fill District 8 alderperson vacancy

The Portage City Common Council confirmed Amy Schlinkert as alderperson for District 8 and swore her into office, filling a vacancy created by a resignation. Schlinkert’s appointment was advertised on the council agenda as a mayoral appointment. Alderperson Bernander moved to approve the appointment; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members present voting "aye." After the vote, Schlinkert took the oath of office administered at the dais and took her seat.
Alderperson Wetzel, who said they had interviewed Schlinkert, told colleagues, "I got to speak with Amy. She was really had a good interview, and we're really impressed with what she can offer." Wetzel said Schlinkert’s background and resume would be helpful to the council.
At a later point on the agenda the council approved Schlinkert’s placements on the Finance, Human Resources and Tourism Promotion committees. Alderperson Bernander moved to approve those committee assignments; the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Schlinkert’s term was listed on the meeting agenda as ending in April 2027. The council did not take other action related to the vacancy or change the term dates during the meeting.
