The Elko County Fire Board approved an annual rate adjustment for apparatus and equipment to align district rates with local, state and federal reimbursement schedules.
Chief Matt Peterson said the district completes the adjustment annually to update rates used when responding with resources to incidents outside the district or under mutual-aid arrangements. He explained that reimbursements typically cover equipment hours and personnel costs, and that billing processes vary by jurisdiction.
"We reimburse the hours that are used on the engine and the hours committed to the incident as well as the personnel cost for them being there," Peterson said, adding that billing often flows through the state for Forest Service incidents and through NDF (Nevada Division of Forestry) for some back-end billing. He said Forest Service/BLM billing can sometimes issue reimbursement in as quickly as 30 days, but complex packages have taken up to 90–100 days; FEMA reimbursements typically take longer.
The board approved the rate adjustments by voice vote to allow the district to enter updated rates into state reimbursement systems and to support upcoming mutual-aid deployments.
