"They're looking at paying us a lump sum annually to potentially bring on some staff and then as well as they have another pot of money that they will set aside for equipment maintenance, the station maintenance and other issues," Peterson said.

Chief Peterson said Elko County currently staffs a captain and a firefighter in Wells and that, under a formal agreement, county personnel would likely continue to operate from the better-equipped Wells station. He also said the arrangement would allow the district to send the most appropriate apparatus to incidents rather than relying on a single truck stationed there.
The board motion as recorded directed staff to draft the agreement and present a draft at a future meeting; the board voted by voice that the motion carries. The chief noted that, because it is an interlocal agreement, it would have to be approved by both the Elko County Fire Board and the City of Wells governing body before taking effect. Jason Pingelly was on the call during the discussion but did not speak at length during the board deliberations.
