Marissa, the district’s staff bookkeeper, reviewed last year’s rate (noted in meeting packet as 6.45%), account balances and capital outlay limits. Board members said recent decisions — including a near-term $900,000 tower build and a committed $1,000,000 capital budget for tower upgrades — increase the district’s obligations and justify maintaining the current rate rather than reducing it.
Rick, Dale and other board members described expected increased use of district tower sites by emergency services and county agencies, and emphasized the district’s responsibility for site maintenance even when third parties own some equipment. Board members also said they are pursuing cooperative arrangements with the county and Elko County Fire District, including an interlocal agreement staff-level discussions are drafting, to coordinate work and reduce duplication.
Board member Misty said she agreed with comments to maintain the current rate. The board heard no public comment on the item before taking a voice vote to keep the rate as presented. Staff was directed to coordinate with county officials and proceed with necessary levy paperwork.
