Elko County fire board approves $38,000 trailer purchase and up to $75,000 chassis remount for quick-attack vehicle

ELKO COUNTY, Nev. — The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners on Jan. 22 approved two equipment purchases for the Elko County Fire District: a trailer to support fire response costing $38,000 to be paid from wildland reimbursement funds, and authorization to procure a heavy-duty chassis for a quick-attack vehicle with a not-to-exceed amount of $75,000.

Chief Matt Peterson told commissioners the $38,000 trailer quote was obtained through a national purchasing program and that the price included delivery to Elko. A commissioner urged staff to seek local vendors that might match the price; Peterson said staff had sent additional inquiries to local vendors the day before the meeting.

On the heavy-duty chassis remount, Peterson said the quote came through Gallagher Ford via the state purchasing program, which the chief said removed the need for a separate competitive bid. The board authorized going out for bid up to $75,000 for the chassis remount and approved proceeding under the state purchasing option discussed in the meeting.

Formal action: Both items (agenda items E1 and E2) were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote; the meeting transcript records the chair calling the votes and registering ayes with no recorded opposition during the votes on those items.

Background and follow-up: The trailer purchase will be funded from wildland reimbursement funds. For the chassis remount, staff noted that Gallagher Ford recently joined the state purchasing program, allowing purchase under that contract; the board authorized procurement not to exceed $75,000. Commissioners asked staff to continue soliciting local vendors to verify price competitiveness for the trailer.
