Georgetown‑Scott County EMS told the fiscal court on May 2025 that it will begin carrying whole blood on supervisor units effective June 2, 2025, partnering with UK HealthCare and the Kentucky Blood Center as part of a program aimed at improving resuscitation care in the field.
The county’s pediatric emergency care coordinator reported the EMS agency received an EMS Pediatric Recognition award for the seventh consecutive year. EMS public information staff said carrying whole blood reflects a commitment to clinical advancement and patient care.
In executive‑session follow‑up, the court authorized county staff to notify the current ambulance billing contractor of the county’s intent to terminate the agreement with 90 days’ notice and to advertise for bids for a new ambulance‑billing company. The motion to notify the contractor and solicit bids passed on a recorded motion.
Separately, the Kentucky Blood Center asked the court to consider a $3,000 contribution to support donor incentives and gift card costs at local blood drives. Court members agreed to add the $3,000 request for consideration in the draft budget.
Court members said the whole‑blood capability and EMS recognition reflect investments in clinical readiness; no vote was required to implement whole blood carriage, which agencies will operationalize with their clinical partners.
