Warren County honors two residents for life‑saving water rescues

The court honored 17‑year‑old Caleb Hammer, who the judge said swam about 50 feet to secure and return a juvenile male to shore after two juveniles were reported in distress at Fillmore Park on April 22. Rob Clayton, superintendent of Warren County Public Schools, praised Hammer's humility and courage and told the court, "he did not hesitate and jumped in there and truly saved a young man's life." The judge noted Hammer is a Warren Central student and presented him with public recognition.
The court also recognized retired Bowling Green Fire Department Captain David Romer for a separate April 24 water rescue on 3 Springs Road. The judge said Romer swam out fully clothed to a submerged vehicle, removed a woman and swam her to shore. Chief Justin Brooks of the Bowling Green Fire Department thanked Romer and said, "we're the lucky ones to still have him in the family." The judge said Romer's actions reflected "a servant's heart" and presented him with public appreciation.
No formal action was required; the recognitions were ceremonial remarks recorded in the meeting minutes.
