Board delays formal action on Title IX (ACAC) policy; NH School Boards Association guidance to be reviewed Feb. 18
Summary
The board discussed guidance from the New Hampshire School Boards Association recommending reverting ACAC (Title IX) language; board members asked for time to reread the guidance and the administration agreed to place the item on the Feb. 18 agenda and the next policy-committee review rather than accept the NHSB A recommendation immediately.

Somersworth School Board members discussed adopting language recommended by the New Hampshire School Boards Association (NHSBA) to align the district’s ACAC (Title IX) policy with recent federal guidance, but they postponed formal action to allow members more time to review the recommended text.
The board reported receiving a 55‑page guidance package from the NHSBA and that NHSBA recommended waiving rules to accept an updated ACAC (Title IX) policy immediately. Board members urged caution: several said they wanted to reread the recommended text and to give the policy committee a chance to examine suggested changes. One board member noted that federal law controls enforceable obligations, and policy wording should be reviewed rather than immediately reinstated without committee review.
The motion to waive rules and accept the NHSBA-recommended ACAC language was made and subsequently withdrawn; the board chair and the policy committee chair agreed to place the ACAC revisions on the Feb. 18 agenda and to review it in the policy committee before final action. The assistant superintendent told the board she had already prepared an adjusted ACAC following NHSBA recommendations and could present it on short notice.
No change to district practice was enacted that evening; board members emphasized that federal law governs where policies conflict with higher authority and requested the time to vet language and potential local departures before voting.
