ADRC weighs options after commercial kitchen remodel cost exceeds budget; local restaurant offer examined

Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) staff reported on efforts to establish a central kitchen for senior nutrition services after a remodel estimate at the Endeavors Building approached $999,000.
Staff identified a local restaurant (Red Maple Eatery in Luck) offered for sale with equipment for $299,900 and said that price made the building worth evaluating. County administration and ADRC staff, however, raised concerns: the restaurant is physically attached to a hotel, its restrooms are accessed through the hotel, and the owner is moving out of state and not interested in a lease. County administration said the physical attachment and shared systems increase risk for a county‑owned operation and could require costly modifications (separate restrooms, firewall, utilities).
Committee members encouraged further analysis rather than dismissing the opportunity outright; the administrator and ADRC staff said they will continue to evaluate alternative options (lease, contract providers, voucher system, purchase of other local properties including a church building in Milltown), drill down on cost‑per‑meal figures, and return with a report next month. Staff also noted that vouchers or restaurant partnerships would not serve the home‑delivered (Meals on Wheels) population, which requires prepared deliveries.
