Commissioners agreed on ad hoc membership during the meeting; the record shows Janetta Phillips and Richard Westfall among the members, and commissioners discussed including a Native American representative. The commission noted interest from other commissioners to participate; however, the final list of three named ad hoc members was not fully specified in the meeting record.
On records preservation, staff reported the commission is continuing an inventory that began in December and is awaiting a response from Vince regarding a National Park Service digitization project. Staff said they had not yet received the NPS reply and that access to the records area was temporarily affected by an office move: staff reported the office downstairs was vacated for about three weeks, limiting immediate progress on the vault/materials.
Commissioners also discussed enforcement and code changes. Staff explained that the county’s development code is being amended to add fees and consequences for code violations tied to design-review items; once code enforcement records a violation, the building department can withhold permits until the violation is addressed. Commissioners described a stepped enforcement approach that includes written notices and requests for fixes before fees are applied.
The commission discussed distribution strategies to catch new businesses before noncompliant signs or exterior changes are made. Suggestions included handing packets directly to storefront property owners, placing flyers at the visitor center front desk and providing the flyer to the county clerk’s office so it can be included with fictitious business name filings.
On the Certified Local Government (CLG) item, staff reported there were no new updates at this time.
The commission set an expectation that the ad hoc committee will meet in the coming weeks, with a tentative start in early February depending on meeting-space availability. The meeting record did not include a formal vote on the ad hoc appointments; members were agreed by consensus.
