Board directs sale of easement strip along Yosemite Park Parkway after title change

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday agreed to offer for sale a 0.18-acre strip of public-right-of-way fronting a property on Yosemite Park Parkway in the Yosemite West subdivision.
Public Works Director Shannon Hansen and County Surveyor Russ Marks explained why the county can now consider vacation or sale of roadbed parcels that were originally held by the developer. Marks described the subdivision history: developers kept title to roads when they created the 1967 subdivision; in recent years the developer corporations transferred ownership of the dirt under those roads to the county as they dissolved, leaving the county with fee title to the former roadbed.
Because the strip requested by the property owner would increase the lot size substantially — from about 0.22 acres to roughly 0.4 acres — Public Works presented two options: a summary vacation of the county’s easement interest that would transfer the easement to the adjacent owner at no cost other than application fees, or instead to offer the 0.18 acres for sale at appraised value. The property owner told staff he is willing to purchase the land.
After brief discussion the board gave consensus direction to sell the 0.18 acres to the property owner at appraised value and requested that the revenue be placed into the Yosemite West roads fund. ‘‘The revenue will go directly into the Yosemite West roads fund,’’ staff said; the county will honor deed restrictions and ensure funds are used for the intended dependent special district services.
Ending: County staff will return with a resolution and sale paperwork after completing the appraisal and related documents.
