Miss Ross and others asked about the status of nonbudget bills that appear temporarily stalled in committee because of the budget: she mentioned SB64 (an elections bill) and SB47 (a state park easement bill). Wendy Chamberlain said both bills had hearings scheduled and she was not currently concerned about either moving forward once floor procedures permit faster action.
Member Rivera reported he testified at a House Community and Regional Affairs hearing on HB13 (sponsored by Representative Gray). Rivera said representatives questioned whether municipalities had the authority to submit tax abatement questions to voters and whether abatements could be geographically targeted; Rivera said the testimony outlined the municipality’s existing work on a tax abatement ordinance and noted that the ordinance number was not recalled during testimony.
The committee also recorded that at its Tuesday meeting it passed a resolution brought by Member Voland supporting SB8, a bill by Senator Gray Jackson related to education options for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students.
