Public works requests authorization to sign roughly $1M amendment to water-rights grant

Arden Thomas, Water Resources Manager for Kittitas County Public Works, asked the commissioners on April 1 to authorize the county to sign an amendment to an existing grant agreement that would add just over $1 million and expand the scope of work to purchase water rights.
Thomas said the amendment funds are designated to support water-right acquisitions associated with ongoing county projects, mentioning the Duke acquisition and indicating the county expects to submit a second amendment for the Cancadia water rights. Thomas asked to be authorized to sign the amendment as soon as it is finalized to avoid delays.
A commissioner asked whether this was the only amendment processed through the program; Thomas said the county previously purchased solar dollars through the program and that a second submittal for Cancadia water rights was likely the same day.
The authorization to sign the amendment was included in the consent agenda that the board approved later in the meeting.
