County committee recommends funding two affordable-housing projects totaling $250,000

Members of Kittitas County’s Homelessness and Affordable Housing Committee told commissioners on April 18 they recommend funding two projects selected from a competitive request for proposals that sought $250,000 to support affordable housing.
Nancy, a committee member, and Casey Knutson of Public Health presented the committee’s recommendation. The committee received two proposals the committee described as “very solid,” deliberated and voted to recommend funding both projects so construction can proceed.
According to the presentation, one project is a HopeSource development in Kittitas County that will provide eight housing units and is nearly complete; the project is expected to be available for move-in in September. The second project is a Habitat proposal for about 13 housing units on Flora Street in Cle Elum; the presenter said this is the first such application for affordable housing the county has received from the Upper County. The committee recommended using $250,000 to fund both projects.
The committee also asked the commissioners to reallocate previously approved ILOF funding for this year back into the funding pool because a separate project tied to those funds is not moving forward this year; the committee said combining those funds would allow both recommended projects to be fully funded. Committee members asked the commissioners to approve the recommendation so both projects can move forward with construction.
