Commissioners announced the second part of the commission’s "Monster House" land-development discussion will be held May 6 at 4 p.m. at the South Walton annex. Several commissioners raised concerns about inconsistent internal communication when a Board of County Commissioners request or other staffing changes occur. One commissioner said they often learn about requests via community platforms such as Nextdoor or Facebook and asked staff to clarify the official communication path; staff member Fred acknowledged the concern and said he would investigate internal processes and report back to the commission.
Commissioners noted summer scheduling challenges because of travel and agreed staff will look for a time that maximizes attendance; the Monster House workshop will not be a formal public hearing and therefore may not require a quorum. The planning director and staff will follow up with calendars and a proposed date for the neighborhood-plan workshop.
