Board approves Commerce Park PUD amendment; overlay ordinance enters first reading

Walton County commissioners on March 27 approved the final order for Commerce Park Planned Unit Development amendment number 3 and conducted the first reading of an amended overlay ordinance, Planning and Development staff said at the Freeport land use meeting.
Tim Brown of Planning and Development told the board the project advanced through the technical review committee and planning commission: the TRC voted to approve Sept. 11, 2024; the Planning Commission recommended approval on Jan. 9 by a 6-0-1 vote and again on March 13, 2025, by a 6-0-1 vote, with Commissioner Burgess abstaining because he is the applicant.
Brown said the amendment would reconcile earlier changes to the PUD's unit types: an earlier amendment had shown townhomes and the current amendment revises those areas to show independent-living units. Two public-comment emails received by staff were entered into the record. A motion to approve the final order and move forward with the overlay ordinance was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote with no public comments at the hearing.
