Walton County commissioners on March 27 adopted an ordinance on second reading to change the future land use designation and zoning for an 11.86-acre parcel for the DW Site Works project (FLU24-000020), planning staff said during the land use meeting in Freeport.
Planning staff member Matt Carpenter said the request would change the property's future land use from rural residential to "industrial and extractive uses or a lesser category" and rezone the parcel from rural residential to heavy industrial. The parcel is on the south side of Highway 90 West east of Rainbow Road and west of Laird Road in District 3 and is adjacent to a grandfathered junkyard, Carpenter said.
"This is a very sparsely populated area," Carpenter told commissioners when asked whether there were nearby houses; staff recorded no objections from local residents. The planning board reviewed the request and recommended approval unanimously, the staff report said; staff records and the meeting packet were entered into the record.
A motion to adopt the ordinance on second reading was made and seconded; commissioners approved the motion by voice vote. The transcript does not record an effective date for the ordinance or any conditions attached at adoption.
