DOT, town and MCI advisory board begin coordination on rotary redesign and MCI site planning

Select Board members and the MCI advisory board reported progress on planning for the former MCI Concord site, including new coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation on the Route 2 rotary and bridge.
Officials said MassDOT has assigned a project manager and will meet with town engineers on a roughly quarterly basis to consider alternatives that improve connectivity and reduce congestion, and to share technical traffic information. Advisory board representatives said MassDOT’s work will focus on the rotary and nearby bridge; town staff and the advisory board are discussing how potential redevelopment of the MCI property could affect construction staging and traffic disruptions.
The advisory board confirmed a public outreach schedule with two large visioning workshops expected Wednesdays April 28 and May 26, plus themed sessions (including a housing-focused workshop) to follow. Staff said the project website is expected to launch in mid-April and that discovery-phase findings will be presented to the advisory board next week. The board also said it is pursuing state earmarks and other revenues to support early planning work and wastewater studies.
