Lees told the board he has been a resident of the area for 10 years and has led national companies in waste and recycling.
Commissioners thanked outgoing interim director Don Sykes for his service and welcomed Lees. The chair asked for a motion to ratify the appointment; the motion passed without recorded opposition. Lees said he looked forward to serving Escambia County and overseeing the ongoing expansion project at county facilities.
What’s next: Lees will assume director duties and work with county staff to continue the ongoing solid waste expansion and transition from Don Sykes. The board requested a smooth handover and asked staff to brief commissioners on any near‑term changes to tipping fees or services.
