Superintendent Chambers and staff told the board that the Okaloosa County School District will be recognized as a Florida Purple Star District, an award for schools and districts that show a commitment to military‑connected students. The superintendent said the recognition is now at the district level and that leadership from Eglin, Duke and Herbert Air Force bases would attend the meeting.
Board members noted the district is one of five Purple Star districts in Florida. “To my understanding, 5 across the state. So 5 out of 67,” staff said. Board members applauded the designation.
In other recognitions, the board planned to honor Niceville High School cheerleaders for winning the 2025 Florida High School Athletic Association all‑girl state championship; staff noted the team’s achievement and that students would be present for recognition.
These items were introduced as ceremonial recognitions on the meeting agenda and were presented as upcoming recognitions rather than policy items.
