Princeton staff update council on micro-mobility and municipal bus study; two electric buses expected this summer

Princeton staff provided a status update March 10 on a transit micro-mobility study aimed at pairing existing transit with complementary services to increase equitable access.
Staff member Deanna said the municipality hired transportation consultant Nelson ygaard in September 2024 to review services provided by Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey Transit and Princeton University and to conduct community engagement through four open houses, stakeholder interviews and public surveys. The next step is identifying short- and long-term strategies and cost models for council and the public to review.
Deanna said the timeline for returning to council is short because Princeton expects to receive two electric buses this summer as part of a regional greenhouse gas settlement with the state. "When we have strategies and cost models formulated, we will come back to mayor and council to present those," she said.
No formal council action was taken on the study at the March 10 meeting; staff said they will present recommended strategies and cost estimates at a future meeting for public review and council consideration.
