Seaview Avenue residents say parking permits and enforcement leave them without spaces

Nick Ziegler, a full-time Long Branch resident, told the council on March 26 that his block east of Ocean Boulevard has 14 parking spots for 15 houses, with two additional homes under construction, and that the mismatch leaves residents competing for spaces.
Ziegler said the resident-permit season runs from May to Sept. 30 and that nonresidents who park without permits often leave vehicles all day even after being ticketed. He urged the council to consider increased penalties for nonpermit parking, towing, or allowing permit holders greater access to metered parking on the opposite side of the road to expand available spaces. Ziegler also said the block has seen more speeding and reckless driving and suggested speed bumps as a safety measure.
Ziegler asked the council to consider whether current rules that allow renters to obtain permits are fair to full-time homeowners, noting the current household limit of two permits. The council did not record a formal response beyond acknowledgement of the comment in the March 26 record; residents were told they could discuss the matter further with staff after the meeting.
