Long Branch council introduces parking ban on Third Avenue, amends beach cabana rules; sets March 12 public hearings

The Long Branch City Council on Feb. 26 voted to introduce two ordinances and set public hearings for March 12, 2025. Council members approved the minutes of the Feb. 12 meeting and adopted a consent agenda by roll call.
The first ordinance introduced, listed as Ordinance 003-25, would prohibit parking at all times on the west side of Third Avenue. The council voted to introduce the measure, advertise it and post it as required by law and scheduled a public hearing for March 12, 2025. The second ordinance, listed as Ordinance 04-25, would amend Chapter 116 (Beaches) of the city code to change language addressing loss of life and damage to property arising from the use and occupancy of beach storage lockers, bathhouses and cabanas and would prohibit subleasing of cabanas. The council voted to introduce that ordinance as well and set its public hearing for March 12, 2025.
Both introductions passed on roll-call votes with four members voting yes and one member absent. Roll-call responses recorded during the meeting were: Councilman Dangler — yes; Councilman Rassus — yes; Councilwoman Wittes — absent; Dr. Vogt — yes; Council President Viera — yes.
Council members also moved to approve the minutes of Feb. 12, 2025; the motion passed on roll call. Later in the meeting the council took a single roll-call vote to adopt the listed resolutions as a consent agenda; the roll call again recorded four yes votes and one absence, and the motion passed.
No ordinance text changes were reported during the meeting and no public testimony was taken on the ordinances at this session; both measures were introduced for first reading and a public hearing/second reading was scheduled for March 12, 2025.
The meeting opened and closed a public participation period earlier in the agenda and otherwise followed routine procedural items, including the pledge of allegiance and a brief presentation awarding winners of the 2024 holiday home decorating contest.
