On Jan. 22 the Long Branch City Council introduced Bond Ordinance 02-25 on first reading, appropriating $11,421,608 for various 2025 capital acquisitions and improvements and setting a public hearing for Feb. 12, 2025.
The bond ordinance’s summary, as read into the record, lists four project categories: renovation and construction of a health and technology center; renovation and construction of City Center Park; acquisition of real property at 228 Morris Avenue; and acquisition of real property at 209 Avenue Park. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of bonds or notes to finance part of the costs.
The figure for authorized bond issuance as read aloud in the meeting transcript appeared inconsistent with the appropriation (the transcript reads an issuance figure that seems unusually large for the appropriation as stated). That figure was read during the meeting and is recorded in the official minutes; the city clerk’s published ordinance text should be consulted for the definitive bond-issuance amount.
On a roll call the council voted to introduce the ordinance and set the Feb. 12 public hearing. Councilman Rassus, Councilwoman Wittes and Dr. Vowatt were recorded as voting yes; Councilman Dangler and Councilman Vier were absent. The introduction motion passed.
