Mayor presents citizenship award to Kim Commerford for 23 years running Dance for Him studio

Mayor Deckett presented a mayoral citizenship award to Kim Commerford at the April 5 Farmington City Council meeting in recognition of her work founding Dance for Him studio in 2002 and her years of service to local students and families.
The mayor read a nomination by Commerford’s daughter, Nicole Elder, noting that Commerford founded the studio in 2002 to provide positive, faith-based dance instruction and an elite training opportunity for the Four Corners region. The nomination said Commerford produced dozens of free community dance productions and had not taken payment for some of her work over her 23 years of service.
Nicole Elder spoke from the podium, accepted the award on her mother’s behalf and said she would continue the studio’s mission. "I just have to say that I'm gifted truly, I believe from the Lord, my mother. And she is such a gift to me, and she has been such a gift to our community," Elder said.
Kim Commerford thanked the council and said her focus is children and that she plans to continue serving as she prepares to expand work with church and CASA volunteer activity. Her husband spoke in support and longtime parents in the audience praised her work.
Mayor Deckett presented a service coin and a certificate reading, in part, "presented to Kim Commerford for inspiring our kids to pursue their passions and faith through dance." No formal council action was required for the presentation.
