Votes at a glance: Rockford council approves parking changes, contracts, grants, leases and zoning items

The Rockford City Council on April 7 approved a range of ordinances, contract awards, and committee recommendations across Code & Regulation, Finance & Personnel, and Planning committees. Most items were approved unanimously by roll call.

Key approvals included parking and traffic changes recommended by the Code and Regulation Committee: establishment of handicapped parking on the north side of Elm Street (specified distances from Church Street) and a “no parking anytime except paratransit” zone on the south side of Salter Avenue, and the Zoning Board of Appeals’ recommended zoning map amendment from C-2 to R-3 for specified addresses and 4680 Ashby Trail. The Code and Regulation Committee also forwarded approvals related to the sale of tobacco products for a retail vape store at 3402 North Main Street, Suite 112, and approval for packaged liquor sales in conjunction with a gas station/convenience store/truck stop and tobacco sales at 1555 Sandy Hollow Road (all subject to conditions and with the legal director preparing ordinances).
