The Historical Commission reported ongoing, frequent working sessions to refine and shorten a consultant draft of the town's historic-preservation plan.
Commissioner Anne Clifford said the commission meets nearly every Friday to distill long consultant drafts into a readable document and to keep recommendations in a single, easily referenced section. Clifford said she will meet with the Massachusetts Historical Commission next Tuesday and that her contact there, Jen Doherty, is leaving the agency; Clifford said Michael Steinitz will be the new contact. Clifford added that Doherty advised the commission to abandon a proposed "Volume 2" so consultants can focus on producing a concise volume of recommendations and core text.
Commissioners said the preservation plan team is also reviewing prior studies, including a 2013 West Concord study with ranked priorities; commissioners plan to reexamine those priorities in light of new projects such as MCI Concord. The commission discussed next steps including drafting a technical memo to summarize status and focusing on producing a single volume that is practical for town use.
No vote was taken; the commission scheduled further working sessions to continue editing and to prepare for the meeting with the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
