Advisory board prepares questions for MassDOT meeting on Route 2 rotary and MCI access

Board members focused questions on transportation design, timing and coordination. Key themes they asked MassDOT to address included: the current project scope for the rotary/Route 2 corridor, whether the department anticipates takings or temporary land needs affecting the MCI property, how MassDOT is coordinating with other agencies that control nearby land and what design assumptions the town should use when briefing its planning consultant. As an example of a technical question, a member proposed asking how far beyond the Com Ave parking area any rotary work would need to extend to provide a safe new access for the MCI site.
The board also discussed related logistics for planning the site and consultant work: the Department of Corrections (DOC) site tour timeline, the drone video capture of the property and the need for the consultant to consider multiple transportation scenarios (status quo and potential redesign). Paul noted the shared interest in aligning the town consultant's analysis with MassDOT's design assumptions so the town can plan site layout and infrastructure accordingly.
Ending: Staff asked advisory members to submit any additional questions to Shannon ahead of the MassDOT meeting; staff said the meeting should establish contacts, clarify process and identify what technical information the town will need to supply or request from state agencies.
