Winneshiek County supervisors on April 7 issued a proclamation recognizing April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and heard from Riverview Center, the regional sexual assault advocacy agency.
Kelly Hornbaum, rural services coordinator for Riverview Center, described the agency’s services across 14 counties, including a local office in Decorah. Hornbaum outlined advocacy and support services offered free and confidentially: hospital advocacy, legal accompaniment, peer support, trauma‑informed therapy referrals, outreach and education, and community resource navigation. She said Riverview Center aims to respond to victims within 60 minutes when an advocate is requested at a hospital and provides long‑term support according to survivors’ needs.
The board moved and seconded a proclamation designating April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and approved the proclamation by voice vote. Hornbaum noted Riverview Center serves people of all ages and backgrounds and referenced private fundraising and county grant requests; the meeting materials show a county request/grant line item of $8,500 on the agency’s budget handout.
