Winneshiek County supervisors approve hiring to restore treasurer epartment staffing

Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve hiring Eric for the county treasurer—s office at a public meeting. The action restores the office to the staffing level it had before the previous treasurer retired.

The hiring matter drew from the board's consent and personnel agenda. The treasurer said the office currently has five staff members and that adding the new hire would return the office to its prior staffing level. "Currently, 5. Myself plus 4. And then this would be addition of this would be take us back to exactly the staffing level that we were at prior to the retirement of the previous treasurer," the treasurer said.

Board members discussed whether the treasurer—s office should require appointments or accept walk-ins. The treasurer and supervisors noted the office has been using appointments and that walk-ins are still served when possible. One supervisor pointed out the state allows a $10 convenience fee for out-of-county customers and described it as optional: "the $10 convenience fee from for using another county that was established by the state is in our code," a supervisor said during the discussion. The board did not change policy on the fee at the meeting.

A motion to approve the hiring was made and seconded; the supervisors voted "aye" and the motion carried. The board welcomed the new hire at the conclusion of the vote.
