The Topeka Development Corporation board on April 15, 2025, approved a $168,297 funding request to support operation and maintenance of Hotel Topeka. The approval is contingent on the governing body’s approval to transfer the funds to the TDC.
City staff member Branson told the board that the corrected resolution distributed at the meeting shows the total funding authorized by the TDC that day is $2,279,049.52 and that the specific request from the general fund (GF) is for $168,297. Branson said, “We would suggest that that comes from general fund hotel non operating expense to operate and maintain hotel. As I have stated before, under the operating agreement, once our balance falls below 150,000, we have an obligation to replenish that amount to provide for operations.” He added that when he checked the account Friday, “we were at approximately $83,000 is what we had in the account.”
A motion to approve the funding request was made and seconded. After a voice vote, President Padilla reported, “I have eight yes. We have two no's. Directors Ortiz and Valdivia Acala.” The board chair declared the motion carried.
The approval was explicitly contingent on subsequent governing-body approval of a transfer of funds to TDC; no additional conditions or implementation schedule was announced at the meeting.
