City honors 1881 redevelopment project for downtown revitalization

The City Commission presented a recognition to Zee Family Assets for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Makinson Hardware Building into 1881, a restaurant with ten upstairs apartments, marking a contribution to downtown Kissimmee's revitalization.
City staff said the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency awarded Zee Family Assets a Pioneer Project Incentive Program grant in 2022 to support restoration and preservation of the historic building. Staff noted the project has been a “significant addition to the downtown” and has drawn visitors and attention.
The project received the Florida Redevelopment Association’s President’s Award in 2024 and the 2025 Central Florida Commercial Association of Realtors Hallmark Award, which staff described as recognition for “innovation and achievement in commercial real estate.” Ray Parsons and Zach Parsons of Zee Family Assets accepted the recognition at the meeting.
City staff framed the award as part of ongoing downtown enhancement efforts and thanked the developers for contributing to the local economy and streetscape.
