Health department, parks and community programs announce Unity festival, food pantry and summer youth programming

The Department of Health in Seminole County said it will sponsor a Unity Within the Community Festival on Thursday, April 10 at 400 West Airport Boulevard to mark National Public Health Week; the event is open to the public and will include inflatables, face-painting, games and music. The department also operates a food pantry every Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at its main office and receives biweekly produce donations from a local organization in Orlando.
Parks & Recreation staff described full schedules for youth sports (soccer, flag football, baseball) and expanding swim-lesson sessions at the Dale Aquatic Center; the current swim session was full but more two-week groupings will be added. Senior programs are running at the Westside Center and downtown location, and new yoga classes were added; staff asked residents to pre-register online.
Community-development outreach: city staff outlined public meetings for the consolidated plan and community development block grant (CDBG) five-year plan, with in-person and virtual meetings in April and an April 19 community cleanup tied to Community Development Week. The city’s purchase-assistance and rent/mortgage/utility assistance programs administered through Seminole County Community Services have open application windows; a flyer with an application was available at the meeting.
Parks events: staff previewed an Easter event at the Jeff Triplett Community Center for ages 12 and under and highlighted a partnership with the Orlando Magic and AdventHealth to install two new courts at a local park, with a volunteer-maintenance appeal to keep the courts in good condition after installation.
Officials encouraged residents to pick up flyers at the meeting and to register online for classes and events.
