Commission approves City Hall fountain upgrades and fencing after debate over public access

The Sarasota City Commission on Feb. 18 approved upgrades to the City Hall fountain and surrounding plaza, which include removal and replacement of deteriorated stonework, electrical upgrades and an exterior fence to secure the area at night.
City facility manager Eric Patrick told commissioners the fence was proposed after repeated vandalism and sanitation problems in the area, and said anchors and concrete tables had been installed previously to curb theft and damage.
