Todd County commissioners approve county portion of Charlotte Tavern liquor license; state approval still required

Todd County commissioners on April 10 approved the county portion of a liquor license application for Charlotte Tavern but emphasized the license is not active until the state processes and stamps it.
County staff said the county’s liquor-license administrative window runs April 1 through May 31 but that county action does not make a license retroactive to April 1; the license becomes effective on the date the state issues it. A county staff member cautioned that processing at the state level for new licenses can take "six to eight weeks," and recommended county staff or the county sanitarian contact the business to ensure the owners understand the timeline.
Commissioner Denny moved to approve the county portion of the application; Commissioner Noske seconded. With no discussion, commissioners approved the motion by voice vote.
The vote cleared the way for the tavern to proceed with the next steps required by Minnesota's state licensing process, but county officials and staff repeatedly noted that the state must complete its review before sales can begin. County staff said they will ensure the license applicant is made aware that the effective date will be the state stamp date and that state processing times may delay activation.
Following the vote the special meeting adjourned and the body moved into a work session on health and human services matters.
