Nogales HA reestablishes tenant advisory board, lists community programs and senior event

Nogales Housing Authority staff reported on Feb. 5 that the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) has been reestablished and is meeting weekly; staff credited the RAB with helping coordinate tenant activities and partnering with local organizations.
Staff listed partner organizations and programs that have been made available to tenants through direct partnerships with Centro Comunitario, Circles of Peace and the Santa Cruz County Health Department. Staff said free programs and services offered include Capoeira, Strong Nation exercise classes, senior physical activities, English classes, Tai Chi, GED and citizenship classes, Zumba, youth basketball and other youth activities, health presentations, parenting classes, fentanyl awareness, reading clubs, blood‑pressure clinics for seniors and support groups.
Staff said they partnered with the city for a trunk‑or‑treat and a Christmas parade event and that they expect continued collaboration for tenant activities. The authority distributed flyers for a senior Valentine's Day event scheduled Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; staff said admission is free and that a local provider will offer rides for seniors to attend. Commissioners expressed appreciation for the services and noted the potential need for more space if participation grows.
Staff asked commissioners to complete required "Lead the Way" training and offered to resend the training link to any commissioner who needs it.
