Comptroller presents FY 2023–24 audit: city receives clean opinion with no findings

City Comptroller Rick Montgomery presented the fiscal year 2023–24 audit package to the Administration and Finance Committee and said the auditors issued an unmodified (clean) opinion.
Montgomery said Perry & Associates, CPA delivered the FY 2024 audit to the city on April 8. He summarized the auditor's conclusion: "The auditors have reported that in their opinion, our financial statements present fairly in all material respects the financial position of City of Huntington as of 06/30/2024. This is commonly referred to as an unmodified or clean audit opinion." Montgomery added that there were no audit findings related to the financial statements and no findings related to compliance for federal grants, and described the result as the city's "eighth consecutive audit with no findings."
Committee members offered congratulations to the finance department; no questions were raised during the public portion of the meeting. The audit package had been distributed to committee members in advance and will be part of the public record. Montgomery offered to answer questions from committee members; none were asked at the meeting.
The audit conclusion confirms the city's financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, were presented fairly in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States. The committee took no separate vote on the audit during the meeting; the report was presented and accepted for committee review.
