Council approves guaranteed-maximum price and design change order for T112/Attaway intersection work

The Florence Town Council on March 18 approved a guaranteed-maximum price (GMP) contract amendment for the T112 Highway and Attaway intersection improvements and a follow-on change order to complete the project’s design coordination.
Town staff presented a contract modification for a construction manager at-risk (CMAR) guaranteed maximum price number 2 with Jay Benicki Construction covering signalization and electronic components in the amount of $275,863.87. Andy Smith, interim public works director, told the council the item was brought to the dais for disclosure given the dollar amounts and to allow the town to order long-lead items. Smith said delivery lead times for signal components are extended, noting “we're from from 10 to 24 weeks ... on getting delivery of those,” and explained the town plans to order parts early and store them until installation.
Council voted to approve the CMAR GMP #2; the motion passed with all members present voting in favor.
The council also approved Change Order No. 1, in the amount of $49,786.25, authorizing EPS Group to finalize plans and coordinate design with the CMAR so construction and design can proceed together. Staff said the change order will allow the design engineer to work concurrently with Jay Benicki Construction to provide a smoother transition to construction. That motion also passed unanimously.
A separate agenda item to purchase a Pierce Enforcer 100-foot platform aerial vehicle through Hughes Fire Equipment, at a price not to exceed $2,533,456.99, was pulled from the agenda for consideration at a later date.
