The Town Council approved a resolution to purchase a 110-foot ladder truck for the Kearny Fire Department under a Sourcewell cooperative contract at a price of $1,441,000.
Council members and the fire department described long lead times for custom fire apparatus and said procurement planning must be done years in advance. Councilwoman Echol noted typical manufacturing lead times have lengthened and that ordering now helps lock in price and delivery on a 4-year production window. The purchase will be financed through bonding, council members said.
Council members said the ladder truck is needed because of tall buildings in town and to maintain response capability. The resolution was placed on the consent agenda and moved forward during the business portion of the meeting.
