The Sayreville mayor and borough council voted to approve two salary ordinances and took approvals and introductions on several local measures and appointments during its March meeting.
The council adopted Ordinance 8-25 and Ordinance 9-25, both described by the clerk as ordinances “fixing the salaries of certain borough officials, officers and employees for the years 2025 to 2027.” Each ordinance passed on second and final reading by roll call vote with all present members recorded as voting yes; one councilmember was excused.
Council members also introduced two new ordinances on first reading and set public hearings for March 24, 2025: Ordinance 10-25, establishing regulations for the planting of bamboo throughout the borough, and Ordinance 11-25, updating borough regulations for borough-sponsored athletic organizations. Councilman Zabrowski moved the bamboo ordinance on first reading; Councilperson Roberts moved the athletic-organization ordinance on first reading. Both were approved for first reading and scheduled for public hearing on March 24.
In appointments and consent-agenda business, the council appointed Vijay Shah to the Cultural Arts Commission for a one-year term and approved the hiring of Sarah Logman and Linda Kelly as cashiers in the tax department effective March 16, 2025. The council also authorized awarding a contract to Starfire Corp for the borough’s 2025 Independence Day fireworks display in an amount not to exceed $17,000.
The meeting’s consent agenda, which included routine resolutions and the bill list, passed on roll call vote. Council members asked for a finer breakdown of a $3,000 line item for public information on the bill list before approving that particular expenditure.
