Sayreville council adopts bamboo‑planting and athletic‑organization ordinances; several new ordinances introduced

At the meeting the Mayor and Borough Council of Sayreville adopted two ordinances and introduced two others.

Ordinance 10‑25, establishing regulations for the planting of bamboo throughout the borough, was adopted on second and final reading. A member of the public, Robinson (Parlin), asked how the maximum fines in the ordinance — including a referenced $1,200 per‑day maximum — were determined and whether a judge might deem them onerous. Officials responded that fines would be imposed by the court and that the ordinance includes a statutory maximum; one councilmember abstained from the final vote citing lack of familiarity with prior discussion.

Ordinance 11‑25, updating borough regulations for borough‑sponsored athletic organizations, was adopted on second and final reading with no public comment recorded.

Councilman Balca moved and the council approved introduction of Ordinance 12‑25 (amending salary schedules for borough officials and employees for 2025–2027) and Ordinance 13‑25 (authorizing sale of Block 371, Lot 2.03 to an adjacent property owner). Both ordinances were approved for first reading and advertised for public hearing on April 14, 2025.
